FORTY-NINER LIGHT

This artwork is situated in the lobby of Charlotte Hotel and Convention Center. It gains inspiration from the university’s mission to promote research and creative activity by developing art that acts as a demonstration of research applied to creative practice by systematically exploring light as an artistic medium. The work is informed by cultural, technological and social dimensions and the belief that art, in its contemporary manifestation, can create meaningful experiences to a large and diverse audience, while drawing awareness to UNC Charlotte’s bright and vibrant future. Titled 49er Light, to demonstrate how it is informed by the 49er spirit of persistence and resilience by creating an awareness of the presence of light. Just as 49er Gold Miner symbolizes pioneering efforts and determination that has led to UNC Charlotte’s dramatic growth, the proposed artwork tries to embody ideas of innovation, by using bleeding edge technologies and materials for its production.
